WINNER ANNOUNCEDSubmitted by ccargle on Thu, 04/01/2010 - 07:31 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - March 31, 2010 Cy-Falls High School Junior Brooklyn Mattingly said her eyes filled with tears and her heart with excitement when she heard her name announced as the first “Miss Cy-Fair Houston.” The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce held the “Miss Cy-Fair Houston” pageant March 27 at Copperfield Church, 8350 Texas 6 North. About 250 were in attendance. Evans said it was a close competition, and the well-rounded panel of judges had a challenging job selecting the “Final 10,” the “Final 5,” and the final standings. That panel included Cheryl Thompson Draper; Erica Rico, 93Q morning show; Jeff Shell, Neil Hamil Model and Talent Agency; Pat Skiles, A+ Actors; Stephanie Guerrero Wanic; former Miss Texas 2005; and Katie Houston, owner of Industrial Red Salons. Mattingly was crowned queen, and received a $1,000 scholarship award. She said she plans to attend Texas A&M, Corpus Christi and to major in environmental engineering. She serves as a Cadet Captain in the Air Force Junior ROTC program at Cy-Falls. She is also a member of the Sons & Daughters of the American Revolution and the Kitty Hawk Air Society. The judges selected Lindsey Longley, a junior at Cy-Ranch High School, as 1st Runner-Up; Jawaher Al-Zibdeh, a sophomore at Cy-Ranch High School, as 2nd Runner Up; Chelsea Wallace, a junior at Cy-Ranch High School, as 3rd Runner Up; Taylor Demiski , a junior at Cy-Woods High School, as 4th Runner Up; Kathryn Wandling, a senior at Cy-Woods High School, as “Miss Congeniality; and Haylee Hoelscher, a sophomore at Houston Christian High School as “Miss Photogenic.” “Our goal was to create a great experience for the contestants and community while offering sponsors a prime opportunity for advertising exposure,” Evans said. “We appreciate and applaud our sponsors’ support – we could not have done it without them." Texas Emergency Care Center – Cypress was the Pageant Underwriter. Sponsors were Autumn Leaves Florist and Gifts, Cy-Fair Magazine, Copperfield Church, Digital Blue Print Solutions, Logo Origins, the Houston Chronicle and Siobhan Fine Photography. Angelini & Associates/ Adventures in Advertising was the T-Shirt sponsor, The Backyard Grill served as the dinner sponsor, and Newk’s Express Café was the Hospitality sponsor. Chris Meyers and Jenna Burns served as the masters of ceremonies. She said Chamber leaders have not made a final decision about holding a “Little Miss/Tiny Miss” pageant for the Cy-Fair community, but have received many requests to do so as well as words of encouragement. “It was a great event and we were glad to put it on for our Cy-Fair community. It was long overdue,” Evans said. “We learned a great deal from our first pageant and will know what to do and expect in our next pageant.” The Cy-Fair Houston Chamber of Commerce has provided leadership and direction to the Cy-Fair area since 1986. Now over 400 members strong, the Board of Directors and numerous committees interact on state and local levels to help build a strong economy and improve the quality of life within the Cy-Fair area. www.cyfairhouston.com
